Maternal and Child Health Professor Recognized by APHA for Excellence in Abstract Submission

Aubrey Madkour, Ph.D., Associate Professor in the Maternal and Child Health Program, received honorable mention recognition in the Excellence in Abstract Submission among all presenters in the HIV/AIDS section at the American Public Health Association's (APHA) Annual Meeting and Expo

Dr. Madkour was recognized for a presentation titled, “Alcohol outlets and co-use of alcohol with other substances among adults living with HIV,” authored by herself, Tekeda Ferguson, Ph.D., David Welsh, MD, Patricia Molina, MD, Ph.D., and Katherine P. Theall, Ph.D. The virtual presentation highlighted the researched link between alcohol outlets and the increased likelihood of various types of substance use, including dual-use of alcohol with other substances.

The APHA Annual Meeting and Expo is the largest yearly gathering for public health professionals focused on robust scientific programming, networking, and social events. This year’s first-ever virtual meeting brought together thousands of public health professionals who shared their research, programmatic work and other experiences.
