MAC affiliated with new department at Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine

As of July 1, 2021, MAC is now affiliated with the Department of Social, Behavioral, and Population Sciences (SBPS) at the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (SPHTM). What was formerly the Department of Global Community Health and Behavioral Sciences has been divided into two separate departments: the new SPBS department and the Department of International Health and Sustainable Development.

Like MAC, the central goal of SBPS is the advancement of population health equity. Faculty and staff in this department have a variety of training backgrounds from epidemiology, social sciences, anthropology, economics, psychology, demography, and urban planning. The research and academic programs housed within the department seek to shed light on the behavioral, social, and structural underpinnings of health inequities, and potential solutions to address them. Other centers affiliated with SBPS include the Tulane Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health Education, Science, and Practice, the Tulane Prevention Research Center, and the Violence Prevention Institute.

While SPBP serves as MAC’s administrative home, we continue our work in cross-cutting, interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty and partners from across SPHTM as well as other centers, schools, and colleges throughout Tulane University and beyond.
